Eight ounces is 16,000 drops, about three years supply if used daily as directed. The shelf life printed on each bottle is 5 to 6 years from date of purchase.
This grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is a natural product derived from organically grown grapefruit seeds. It is a powerful antiviral and antibacterial agent that is highly effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Because grapefruit seed extract is non-toxic and can be safely ingested, it has numerous applications in addition to being used as an oral irrigant. Some of the recommended uses are as a water purifier, treatment of ear infections, douche, and surface disinfectant. Included in each shipment of grapefruit seed extract is a small pamphlet published by the manufacturer listing these and many other uses.
When grapefruit seed extract is used as directed in this treatment guide along with professional teeth cleaning, the antibiotics metronidazole and amoxicillin, routine brushing and flossing, along with oral irrigation with povidone iodine, there is a high probability that the periodontal gum disease will be eradicated. A long-term maintenance program that includes brushing, flossing, oral irrigation with GSE, and professional teeth cleaning insures that periodontal gum disease will not re-occur in the future.
People without serious gum disease whose pockets are between 3 and 5 millimeters can also benefit substantially by using a GSE solution in an oral irrigator. This is especially true for people who are intermittent flossers.
Thoroughly brushing and flossing will remove approximately 95% of the disease-causing bacterial plaque. Unfortunately, the remaining 5% can quickly regroup and begin causing problems. This is why dentists and dental hygienists recommend flossing daily. If one brushes, flosses, and uses an oral irrigator with a GSE solution, then approximately 95% of the remaining 5% of bacterial plaque are removed, resulting in just 0.25% of bacterial plaque remaining. This remaining 0.25% takes much longer to regroup and begin causing problems.
This author has observed that most people without serious gum disease can floss and use an oral irrigator with a GSE solution twice a week, yet have a clinically observable state of periodontal health comparable to what they would achieve by flossing daily.
